Edward Heart Hospital is ranked in the top 5 hospitals in the Chicagoland area.  Located in Naperville Illinois, Edward offers cutting edge technologies in cardiovascular medicine and surgery.  Internships are offered for students with undergraduate and master degrees in exercise science in both the Cardiodiagnostics Department and Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Department. 

Interns will receive hands on experience with patients in cardiac rehab, pulmonary rehab and cardiac diagnostics. During the internships the interns will be under the direct supervision of Exercise Physiologists, RN’s, and Respiratory therapist.  In the Cardiodiagnostics Department you will have the opportunity to experience Stress testing, Cardiopulmonary testing, Nuclear medicine, PV ultrasound and testing, Protime clinic, and CT angiography.  Other observations during the internships include cardiac catheterizations, and open heart surgeries.

We offer every facet of Phase II and III cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation.  An opportunity for a great deal of hands on learning. We are also able to split time with our Wellness Center if the student is interested in a broader range of experiences.  We accept grad and undergrad students.  Primarily we would be geared toward the undergrad.  We take students fall, spring or summer semesters.  We are not a paid internship.  We are extremely flexible with our interns and work with them to make sure they are getting the experience they are after.  Contact info: Jeff Tolly, Exercise Specialist

    Offer experience in Phase II and III Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab.  Phase I Cardiac Rehab in our location involves the provision of discharge exercise guidelines, however we do not ambulate the Inpatient population.  Also will provide opportunities to observe in Cardiac Diagnostics, the Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Surgery, and round with a Pulmonary CNS. 

Accept graduate and undergraduate interns.  Prefer  undergraduate interns to have had an ECG class and experience with taking blood pressures.  Experience with exercise leadership is a plus. Fall, spring and summer internships offered.

MacNeal Hospital, Berwyn, Illinois offers Cardiac Rehab phase II & III.
Both undergraduate and graduate positions are available year-round. Cardiac Rehab hours are Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm.

Opportunities exist for all aspects of patient care including exercise prescription, patient assessment, interacting and mentoring by staff, and community education. Interns will be able to conduct warm ups/cool downs, strength conditioning workouts, stretching sessions, BP's, EKG interp., and weekly patient education lectures. Interns will also be able to observe stress testing, echocardiograms, catheterizations, and possibly open-heart surgeries.

Provena St.  Joseph Medical Center

We offer internship students opportunity to gain experience in all 3 phases of Cardiac Rehabilitation as well as Pulmonary Rehabilitation.  We provide many opportunities for hands-on inpatient and outpatient care, community education and screening, exercise prescription and leadership.  Additionally we offer opportunities to observe diagnostic testing in our Cardiology Dept such as stress testing, echocardiography, vascular testing, TEE, as well as cath lab and CV surgery.
